Thai is typically considered good value but the prices at Noi Thai run high and this is by far the most expensive Thai meal I have ever experienced anywhere around the globe. While we had a perfectly pleasant meal at Noi Thai Cuisine I have certainly had better, but it did satisfy my Thai cravings. To make matters even more laughable they had run out of Singha (Thai Beer) so The Hubs also had to choose a substitute. The first cocktail I ordered was unavailable as they had run out of watermelon and I was also unable to get my second choice a glass of Sauv Blanc. We had an almost laughable experience ordering drinks at Noi Thai Cuisine Hawaii. The serving sizes were standard and we were unable to finish it all so dessert was never really an option. Noi Thai Cuisine offers a variety of traditional Thai dishes that will please the palate and transport you straight to the heart of southeast Asia. On entering we found ourselves in a generous sized bar which had quite an appealing aesthetic except for the strange addition of several large screen TVs which seemed like a rather strange addition and detracted from the upscale atmosphere they are clearly trying to create. Given Noi Thai Cusine is located on the third floor of the Royal Hawaiian Center ( read my Waikiki shopping tips here) you are unlikely to wander past it, but we didn’t want to chance anything less than Trip Advisor’s #1 rated Thai restaurant so we purposely sought it out.
On this particular night the cravings were strong so we took a chance on Noi Thai Cuisine, the newcomer on the block which had been open under a year. On our last few visits to Hawaii we struggled to find a decent Thai restaurant in Waikiki and after a very disappointing meal at Keo’s (now closed) we were a little gun-shy to try again.
Noi Thai Cuisine has restaurants in Bend, Oregon and Seattle, Washington as well as the Honolulu restaurant we visited which was just a block away from our hotel The Sheraton Waikiki.
So how does it compare to the brilliant Thai I have eaten all around the globe? In most cities there are dozens of great Thai joints serving up Pad Thai quicker than you can blink, but not so in Waikiki. I’d have a really tough time naming my very favourite cuisine but Thai is definitely in my top 5.
